State of Wisconsin
Office of Justice Assistance
April 18, 2011
The Honorable, The Legislature:
I have attached an electronic version the Wisconsin Justice Information Sharing program report to the legislature per Wis. Stats. 16.971(9). We will be having a limited number of hard copies printed and I will make sure your office gets one for your records. A summary paragraph of the report is provided below:
WIJIS serves as the state's mechanism for effectively coordinating justice system-wide solutions among multiple criminal justice agencies (including the Courts, DOT, DOA, DOJ, DOC, DNR, and local Law Enforcement agencies). The goal of WIJIS is to assist justice agencies in making the most information available to the right person, at the right time, so that the best decision can be made in order to protect the rights of citizens and public safety. WIJIS focuses on making daily business easier and more cost effective for front-line justice professionals - law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, clerks of court, corrections officials, attorneys and others. In addition to its role as statewide justice information sharing coordinator, the WIJIS program has two major operational products:
1) The Justice Gateway, which is a web-based search tool that can access multiple data sources stored by local and state agencies in separate data systems at the same time (includes information available from no other source).
2) The Workflow Engine which deals with routing of justice information among criminal justice professionals (E-Citations, warrant and temporary restraining order exchange, electronic transfer of bail and bond conditions).
Sincerely,
TAMI JACKSON
PIO & Legislative Liaison
