AB162,1,3 An Act to amend 84.02 (5) (a); and to create 13.90 (6) of the statutes; relating to: a "legislative hotline" service and placement of information regarding that service on folded state highway maps.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Currently, the department of transportation (DOT) periodically publishes folded state highway maps. This bill specifically authorizes the joint committee on legislative organization to provide a toll-free telephone service to be called a "legislative hotline" for the purpose of facilitating contacts between members of the legislature and members of the public and providing information concerning legislative organization and calendars, and requires DOT to include a brief explanation of any legislative hotline service on the folded highway maps.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB162, s. 1 Section 1. 13.90 (6) of the statutes is created to read:

AB162,1,8 13.90 (6) The joint committee on legislative organization may provide a toll-free telephone service to be called a "legislative hotline" for the purpose of facilitating contacts between members of the legislature and members of the public and providing information concerning legislative organization and calendars.

AB162, s. 2 Section 2. 84.02 (5) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:

AB162,2,12 84.02 (5) (a) As often as it deems necessary, the department shall publish highway service maps showing the state trunk highway system and such other main highways and other features as may seem desirable. Such highway service maps shall be sold by the department at a price to be fixed by it, which shall be not less than cost. The department may permit the use of the base plates for other maps and publications in consideration of a fair fee for such use. The department shall make and publish or duplicate such highway service maps as are required for its use, and shall publish folded highway maps of Wisconsin for free distribution to the public. The department shall ensure that the folded highway maps bear information regarding the requirements of s. 347.48 (4). The department shall also ensure that the folded highway maps include a brief explanation of any legislative hotline service provided under s. 13.90 (6) in an appropriate visible location.
