Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Currently, the department of transportation (DOT) periodically publishes
folded state highway maps. This bill specifically authorizes the joint committee on
legislative organization to provide a toll-free telephone service to be called a
"legislative hotline" for the purpose of facilitating contacts between members of the
legislature and members of the public and providing information concerning
legislative organization and calendars, and requires DOT to include a brief
explanation of any legislative hotline service on the folded highway maps.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB162, s. 1 4Section 1. 13.90 (6) of the statutes is created to read:
AB162,1,85 13.90 (6) The joint committee on legislative organization may provide a
6toll-free telephone service to be called a "legislative hotline" for the purpose of
7facilitating contacts between members of the legislature and members of the public
8and providing information concerning legislative organization and calendars.

6publications in consideration of a fair fee for such use. The department shall make
7and publish or duplicate such highway service maps as are required for its use, and
8shall publish folded highway maps of Wisconsin for free distribution to the public.
9The department shall ensure that the folded highway maps bear information
10regarding the requirements of s. 347.48 (4). The department shall also ensure that
11the folded highway maps include a brief explanation of any legislative hotline service
12provided under s. 13.90 (6) in an appropriate visible location.
