AB279,1,3 1An Act to renumber and amend 36.25 (2); and to create 36.25 (2) (b) of the
2statutes; relating to: prohibiting an institution or center within the University
3of Wisconsin System from requiring a student to reside in a dormitory.

This bill prohibits any institution or center within the University of Wisconsin
System from requiring any student to reside in a dormitory.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB279, s. 1 4Section 1. 36.25 (2) of the statutes is renumbered 36.25 (2) (a) and amended
5to read:
AB279,2,26 36.25 (2) (title) Wisconsin residents preference in Student housing. (a)
7Preference as to rooming, boarding and apartment facilities in the use of living units
8operated by any university shall, for the following school year, be given to students
9who are residents of this state and who apply before March 15, unless a later date
10is set by the board. Such preference shall be granted in accordance with categories
11of priority established by the board. Leases or other agreements for occupancy of

1such living units shall not exceed a term of one calendar year. The board may
2promulgate rules for the execution of this subsection paragraph.
AB279, s. 2 3Section 2. 36.25 (2) (b) of the statutes is created to read:
AB279,2,54 36.25 (2) (b) No institution or center may require a student to reside in a
5dormitory.
AB279, s. 3 6Section 3. Initial applicability.
AB279,2,8 7(1)  This act first applies to the first fall semester beginning after the effective
8date of this subsection.
