3witnesses.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Victims and witnesses of crimes have various rights under current law, such as
the right to be informed about the case and available financial assistance and the
right to be protected from harm. The county board is responsible for enforcing these
rights and providing related services. The state reimburses the counties for up to
90% of their costs. The county board, district attorney, local law enforcement and
social services agencies and courts are all required to cooperate with each other to
help crime victims and witnesses obtain services. This bill adds victim and witness
offices to the group of agencies and officers that are required to cooperate with each
other.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
