AJR17,1,2 Relating to: requesting Congress and the federal Secretary of Agriculture, Daniel Glickman, to revise the milk marketing system.

AJR17,1,4 Whereas, the current national milk marketing and dairy price support system is antiquated and disconnected from economic reality; and

AJR17,1,7 Whereas, the entire system continues to turn on the price of manufacturing milk in the upper Midwest and the distance of any particular market from Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and

AJR17,1,12 Whereas, this system places Wisconsin's dairy farmers at a comparative disadvantage compared to other milk-producing areas of the nation and sends wrong signals to milk-producing areas of the country, especially when considering their agricultural infrastructure and inherent suitability for the production of milk, to the disadvantage of Wisconsin dairy farmers; and

AJR17,1,15 Whereas, the impending 1995 federal farm bill will present an opportunity to right the inherent injustices of the current system by reconnecting it to market and economic forces; now, therefore, be it

AJR17,2,2 Resolved by the assembly, the Senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature request Congress and Secretary of Agriculture Daniel Glickman to fundamentally revise the milk marketing and dairy price support system in 1995; and, be it further

AJR17,2,5 Resolved, That that the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to each member of this state's congressional delegation and to Secretary Glickman.
