2with Belgorod.
AJR59,1,53 Whereas, Belgorod is one of the former Soviet republics that is seeking to
4strengthen its own identity, to develop itself further and to establish international
5relationships; and
AJR59,1,76 Whereas, Belgorod has several similarities to Wisconsin, such as an important
7dairy industry, a large production of grain crops and the hospitality of its people; and
AJR59,1,118 Whereas, Belgorod and Wisconsin have begun to establish relationships, such
9as an exchange program between Marian College and 2 institutions of higher
10learning in Belgorod, an exchange of psychiatrists earlier this year and a series of
11visits; and
AJR59,1,1412 Whereas, Belgorod's leaders have made it clear that they wish to strengthen the
13relationship between their country and Wisconsin by establishing a sister-state
14relationship; and
AJR59,2,215 Whereas, a sister-state relationship would benefit both Wisconsin and
16Belgorod by facilitating an exchange of information and ideas, by promoting travel

1between the 2 regions and by increasing the number of exchange programs between
2them; now, therefore, be it
AJR59,2,5 3Resolved by the assembly, the Senate concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin legislature encourage the administration to establish a sister-state
5relationship between Wisconsin and Belgorod; and, be it further
AJR59,2,7 6Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
7resolution to Dr. Yuri Seliverstov, the chairman of the Belgorod Regional Duma.
