AB210,1,2 1An Act to renumber and amend 14.035; and to create 14.035 (2) of the
2statutes; relating to: senate approval of Indian gaming compacts.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the governor, on behalf of the state, is authorized to
negotiate and enter into Indian gaming compacts. These compacts are regulated by
the federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. This bill provides that, before entering
into any Indian gaming compact that has been negotiated, the governor is required
to submit the proposed compact to the senate for approval. The governor may not
enter into any compact until the senate, by a majority vote of those members present
and voting, has approved the proposed compact in its entirety.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB210,1,65 14.035 (1) The Subject to sub. (2), the governor may, on behalf of this state,
6enter into any compact that has been negotiated under 25 USC 2710 (d).
AB210, s. 2 7Section 2. 14.035 (2) of the statutes is created to read:

114.035 (2) Before entering into any compact negotiated under sub. (1), the
2governor shall submit the proposed compact to the senate for approval. The governor
3may not enter into any compact until the senate, by a majority vote of those members
4present and voting, has approved the proposed compact in its entirety.
