AB264,1,2 1An Act to create 36.38 of the statutes; relating to: reserving a percentage of
2dormitory rooms for certain students at the University of Wisconsin System.

This bill requires the board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System to
reserve at least 15% of the dormitory rooms on each campus for students who pledge
not to use tobacco products, drink alcohol beverages or violate state laws regulating
controlled substances (dangerous drugs) in the dormitory. To the extent possible, the
board must ensure that the reserved rooms are in close proximity to each other.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB264, s. 1 3Section 1. 36.38 of the statutes is created to read:
AB264,1,6 436.38 Dormitory rooms. (1) The board shall ensure that at least 15% of the
5dormitory rooms on each campus are reserved for students who pledge not to do any
6of the following in the dormitory:
AB264,1,77 (a) Use tobacco products, as defined in s. 139.75 (12).
AB264,2,1
1(b) Drink alcohol beverages, as defined in s. 125.02 (1).
AB264,2,22 (c) Violate ch. 961.
AB264,2,4 3(2) To the extent possible, the board shall ensure that the rooms reserved under
4sub. (1) are in close proximity to each other.

AB264,2,66 (1) This act takes effect on July 1, 1998.
