Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, counties and the city of Milwaukee may bring a civil action
against persons for certain costs that appear on property tax bills. Among those costs
are those of razing property and restoring the site. Those costs are charged against
the person who owned the property at the time when it was razed. Under this bill,
those costs are charged against the person who owned the property at the time when
the order to raze the property was recorded in the register of deeds office.
For further information see the local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
