2inspections of motor vehicles transferred to surviving spouses.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, any motor vehicle subject to an emissions inspection must
undergo such an inspection every 2 years as a condition of vehicle registration. Any
motor vehicle more than 5 model years old that is subject to an emissions inspection
and whose ownership is transferred must undergo such an inspection within 45 days
after the transfer of ownership, unless the vehicle passed such an inspection within
90 days prior to the transfer of ownership.
This bill prohibits the department of transportation from requiring an
emissions inspection of any vehicle prior to the regularly scheduled inspection if
ownership of the vehicle is transferred to a surviving spouse.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
