and R. Young, cosponsored by Senator Moen. Referred to
Committee on Highways and Transportation.
AB87,1,3 1An Act to repeal 346.07 (1); and to amend 346.17 (1) of the statutes; relating
2to:
the requirement of giving audible signal prior to overtaking vehicles to the
3left.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law requires the driver of a motor vehicle to sound the vehicle's horn
before attempting to overtake and pass to the left of a vehicle traveling in the same
direction. This requirement does not apply within business or residence districts, or
on any highway having more than one lane available for traffic in the same direction
unless such an audible warning is reasonably necessary to warn the vehicle about
to be passed.
This bill eliminates this requirement.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB87, s. 1 4Section 1. 346.07 (1) of the statutes is repealed.
AB87, s. 2 5Section 2. 346.17 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:

1than $20 nor more than $40 for the first offense and not less than $50 nor more than
