AJR49,1,32 Whereas, Lee E. Grugel was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 9, 1940, and
3died in Madison on October 31, 1996; and
AJR49,1,54 Whereas, Mr. Grugel served the state of Wisconsin in several capacities with
5the University of Wisconsin for many years; and
AJR49,1,86 Whereas, he served for 10 years as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at
7the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, after spending 12 years as a professor of
8history at Moorhead State University in Minnesota; and
AJR49,1,109 Whereas, he spent 5 years as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Centers;
10and
AJR49,1,1311 Whereas, as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Centers, he supported
12new ways of learning and fostered cooperation in teaching between the centers and
13the K-12 schools and the Wisconsin Technical Colleges; and
AJR49,1,1514 Whereas, he enjoyed the respect of his colleagues, as they knew of his dedication
15to learning and his contagious optimism; and
AJR49,1,1716 Whereas, Chancellor Grugel continued to build upon the cooperation that goes
17on between the centers and their communities; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
2legislature of the state of Wisconsin express their gratitude for Lee E. Grugel's
3service to the University of Wisconsin System and the state of Wisconsin; and, be it

AJR49,2,6 5Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
6resolution to Mr. Grugel's wife, Fran, and to his children, Ann and Chris.
