Whereas, Lee E. Grugel was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 9, 1940, and
3died in Madison on October 31, 1996; and

Whereas, Mr. Grugel served the state of Wisconsin in several capacities with
5the University of Wisconsin for many years; and

Whereas, he served for 10 years as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at
7the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, after spending 12 years as a professor of
8history at Moorhead State University in Minnesota; and

Whereas, he spent 5 years as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Centers;

Whereas, as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Centers, he supported
12new ways of learning and fostered cooperation in teaching between the centers and
13the K-12 schools and the Wisconsin Technical Colleges; and

15to learning and his contagious optimism; and

1Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
2legislature of the state of Wisconsin express their gratitude for Lee E. Grugel's
3service to the University of Wisconsin System and the state of Wisconsin; and, be it
