AJR54,1,42 Whereas, throughout this nation's history, citizens have relied on the armed
3forces to protect the United States' interests, to oppose aggression by foreign powers
4and to keep the peace; and
AJR54,1,65 Whereas, the U.S. armed forces, to perform their duties, have frequently had
6to go to war; and
AJR54,1,97 Whereas, during this nation's wars millions of members of the armed forces
8have contributed to the cause; many have faced danger bravely; and many have died
9or been wounded; and
AJR54,1,1110 Whereas, even during peacetime the U.S. armed forces have stood ready to face
11danger and have prepared themselves to do so effectively; and
AJR54,1,1412 Whereas, the citizens of this country need constantly to remember, and be
13grateful for, the services and sacrifices of this country's armed forces throughout this
14nation's history; and
AJR54,1,1615 Whereas, one way to rekindle those feelings is by designating a day on which
16to focus our attention on the armed forces; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
2Wisconsin legislature proclaim May 17 "Armed Forces Day in Wisconsin", urge the
3residents of this state to use that occasion to renew their commitment to the current
4members of the armed forces and their memories of former members, particularly
5those who gave their lives in this nation's service, and urge all Wisconsinites to take
6part in commemorative services on May 17.
