AJR75,1,1 Relating to: urging the U.S. navy to name the last Seawolf submarine "Manitowoc".

AJR75,1,3 Whereas, Manitowoc shipbuilders constructed a total of 28 submarines in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, during World War II; and

AJR75,1,6 Whereas, Manitowoc shipbuilders recently completed construction of 28 submarines 19 months ahead of schedule and returned $1.8 million in unused taxpayer dollars to the federal government; and

AJR75,1,8 Whereas, the U.S. Congress approved construction of 3 $1.5 billion Seawolf submarines, the largest attack sub in the fleet; and

AJR75,1,11 Whereas, Manitowoc shipbuilders and the City of Manitowoc have made a significant contribution to our country by constructing submarines that have protected our fleet in times of war and in peace; and

AJR75,1,13 Whereas, the third and final Seawolf submarine has not yet been named; now, therefore, be it

AJR75,1,17 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature urges the U.S. navy to name its last Seawolf submarine "Manitowoc" in honor of the city in which it was constructed and the Americans who constructed it; and, be it further

AJR75,2,4 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to President Bill Clinton, Secretary of Defense Cohen, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jay Johnson and each member of the Wisconsin congressional delegation.
