AJR75,1,32 Whereas, Manitowoc shipbuilders constructed a total of 28 submarines in
3Manitowoc, Wisconsin, during World War II; and
AJR75,1,64 Whereas, Manitowoc shipbuilders recently completed construction of 28
5submarines 19 months ahead of schedule and returned $1.8 million in unused
6taxpayer dollars to the federal government; and
AJR75,1,87 Whereas, the U.S. Congress approved construction of 3 $1.5 billion Seawolf
8submarines, the largest attack sub in the fleet; and
AJR75,1,119 Whereas, Manitowoc shipbuilders and the City of Manitowoc have made a
10significant contribution to our country by constructing submarines that have
11protected our fleet in times of war and in peace; and
AJR75,1,1312 Whereas, the third and final Seawolf submarine has not yet been named; now,
13therefore, be it
AJR75,1,17 14Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
15legislature urges the U.S. navy to name its last Seawolf submarine "Manitowoc" in
16honor of the city in which it was constructed and the Americans who constructed it;
17and, be it further

1Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
2resolution to President Bill Clinton, Secretary of Defense Cohen, Chief of Naval
3Operations Admiral Jay Johnson and each member of the Wisconsin congressional
4delegation.
