Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, if the owner of a dog permits the dog to run at large, the
owner is subject to a civil forfeiture of from $25 to $200. A law enforcement officer
or a humane officer may take custody of a dog running at large. A dog is considered
to be running at large if it is off the property of its owner and not under the control
of the owner or some other person.
This bill provides that a dog is not considered to be running at large if the dog
is actively engaged in a hunting activity supervised by a person.
