AB722,1,3 1An Act relating to: probation, parole and extended supervision agent positions,
2purchase of services for persons on probation and parole and making an
3appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a person who is on probation, parole or extended supervision
as the result of a criminal conviction is in the legal custody of the department of
corrections (DOC) and is supervised by a probation, parole or extended supervision
agent. This bill increases by 100 the number of authorized FTE positions of DOC,
beginning July 1, 2000. The new positions must be used to supervise persons on
probation or parole in Milwaukee County and to perform other functions relating to
the supervision of persons on probation or parole in Milwaukee County.
Current law also provides that DOC may contract with public, private or
voluntary agencies for the purchase of goods, care and services for persons on
probation or parole. The services that DOC may contract for include diagnostic
services, evaluation, treatment, counseling, referral and information, special
education, vocational training, work adjustment, sheltered employment and special
living arrangements. This bill provides DOC with an additional $1,744,600 in fiscal
year 2000-01 so that DOC can purchase goods, care and services for persons on
probation or parole in Milwaukee County.

For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
