AB837,1,3 An Act to create 347.435 of the statutes; relating to: requiring certain motor vehicles sold by motor vehicle dealers to be equipped with a front registration plate bracket and providing a penalty.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Current law requires most motor vehicles, including automobiles, motor trucks and certain truck tractors, motor buses and road tractors, to display two registration plates on the vehicle; one plate on the front and one plate on the back.

This bill prohibits any motor vehicle dealer from selling a motor vehicle that is required to display a registration plate on the front of the vehicle, unless the vehicle is equipped with a registration plate bracket for affixing a registration plate for display on the front of the vehicle. A motor vehicle dealer who violates this prohibition may be required to forfeit not less than $10 nor more than $200 for each offense.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB837, s. 1 Section 1. 347.435 of the statutes is created to read:

AB837,2,4 347.435 Registration plate bracket. Beginning on the first day of the fourth month beginning after the effective date of this section .... [revisor inserts date], no motor vehicle dealer, as defined in s. 218.01 (1) (n), may sell a motor vehicle that is required under s. 341.15 to display a registration plate on the front of the vehicle, unless the vehicle is equipped with a front registration plate bracket for affixing a registration plate to the front of the vehicle.
