AJR30,1,2 Relating to: memorializing Congress to correct the dual-income inequity without reducing the benefits of any current or future Social Security recipients.

AJR30,1,4 Whereas, Social Security is an important source of income for many senior citizens; and

AJR30,1,8 Whereas, current federal law results in two-income families cumulatively paying more in Social Security taxes than one-income families earning the same amount of money, and further results in a smaller benefit to the surviving spouse; and

AJR30,1,11 Whereas, it is clear that these inequities result from basing Social Security on a model of one breadwinner per family, which in many cases no longer reflects reality; and

AJR30,1,14 Whereas, many current and future Social Security recipients — particularly women — are and will continue to be hurt by this policy if it is not changed; now, therefore, be it

AJR30,2,4 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature urge the Congress of the United States to correct the dual-income inequity without reducing the benefits of any current or future Social Security recipients; and, be it further

AJR30,2,9 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to the president and secretary of the U.S. senate, to the speaker and clerk of the U.S. house of representatives, and to each member of the congressional delegation from this state attesting the adoption of this joint resolution by the 1999 legislature of the state of Wisconsin.
