AB388,1,2 1An Act to create 63.275 of the statutes; relating to: the eligibility of certain
2employees of 1st class cities to take general promotional examinations.

This bill specifically authorizes, for 1st class cities (presently only Milwaukee),
certain members of the fire and police departments, and certain employees of first
class cities who are not members of the classified service, to take general promotional
examinations that are given by or for the city service commission if these persons are
otherwise qualified to take such examinations. The bill does not apply to officers who
are elected by the people, one deputy in each department whose office was created
by statute, heads of principal departments of the city, and certain appointees of the
mayor.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB388, s. 1 3Section 1. 63.275 of the statutes is created to read:
AB388,2,4 463.275 General promotional examinations. (1) Except as provided in sub.
5(2), all members of the fire and police departments and all city employees who are

1not subject to the general rules prepared under this chapter by the city service
2commissioners under s. 63.27 are eligible to take any general promotional
3examination that is given or administered by, or conducted for, the city service
4commission if such persons are otherwise qualified to take such an examination.
AB388,2,8 5(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to officers who are elected by the people, one
6deputy in each department whose office was created and exists by reason of statute,
7heads of principal departments of the city, and appointees of the mayor under s.
862.51.
