AB837,1,2 1An Act to amend 119.04 (1); and to create 120.26 of the statutes; relating to:
2prohibiting school boards from imposing residency requirements on teachers.

This bill prohibits a school board from requiring, as a condition of employment,
that a teacher reside within the school district.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1118.30 to 118.43, 118.51, 118.52, 118.55, 120.12 (5) and (15) to (26), 120.125, 120.13

are applicable to a 1st class city school district and board.
AB837, s. 2 4Section 2. 120.26 of the statutes is created to read:
AB837,2,8 5120.26 Residency requirements prohibited. (1) In this section, "teacher"
6means any person holding a license or permit issued by the state superintendent
7whose employment by a school district requires that he or she hold that license or
8permit.
AB837,2,10 9(2) A school board may not require, as a condition of employment, that a teacher
10reside within the school district.
AB837, s. 3 11Section 3. Initial applicability.
AB837,2,1512 (1) This act first applies to any school district whose teachers are covered by
13a collective bargaining agreement that is in effect on the effective date of this
14subsection upon the expiration, extension, renewal, or modification of the
15agreement.
