2department of veterans affairs pharmacies to dispense medications to veterans
3for prescriptions written by private practitioners.
AJR105,1,44 Whereas, our nation owes a great debt to the veterans of our armed forces; and
AJR105,1,6 5Whereas, many veterans are experiencing difficulty purchasing their
6prescription drugs; and
AJR105,1,10 7Whereas, veterans without severe service-connected disabilities and whose
8income is above the level that makes them eligible for free care may obtain needed
9medications at veterans affairs facilities for the very reasonable cost of $2 per
10prescription per 30-day supply; and
AJR105,1,12 11Whereas, this program is only available to a veteran who has received a
12prescription from a veterans affairs physician after an outpatient visit; and
AJR105,1,1513 Whereas, a veteran who is interested in participating in this program is faced
14with long waiting periods before having an appointment with a veterans affairs
15physician for an outpatient visit; and

1Whereas, House Resolution 1717 proposes to allow veterans immediate access
2to prescription medications offered through the department of veterans affairs by
3allowing the veterans to use prescriptions written by their family physician to
4receive the department's reduced-cost prescription drugs; and
AJR105,2,6 5Whereas, passage of House Resolution 1717 would reduce federal bureaucracy
6and help to repay our nation's debt to its veterans; now, therefore, be it
AJR105,2,11 7Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of
8the state of Wisconsin hereby memorializes Congress to pass legislation to amend
9Title 38 of the United States Code to require department of veterans affairs
10pharmacies to dispense medication to veterans for prescriptions written by private
11practitioners by passing House Resolution 1717; and, be it further
AJR105,2,16 12Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
13resolution to the governor of Wisconsin, to each member of the Wisconsin
14congressional delegation, to the President and vice president of the United States,
15to each member of the President's cabinet, and to the secretary of the U.S. senate and
16the clerk of the U.S. house of representatives.
