2001 Assembly JOINT RESOLUTION 77

AJR77,1,1 Relating to: the life and public service of Ervin Butch Conradt.

AJR77,1,3 Whereas, Ervin "Butch" Conradt was born on October 4, 1916, in the town of Bovina, Wisconsin, and died on November 5, 2001, in Appleton, Wisconsin; and

AJR77,1,4 Whereas, he was educated at Springbrook Elementary School; and

AJR77,1,6 Whereas, Mr. Conradt, who was known by everyone as "Butch," began farming in 1940 and was a lifetime farmer; and

AJR77,1,8 Whereas, he married Grace Voight, who preceded him in death on January 29, 1973; and

AJR77,1,10 Whereas, after years of being a widower, Butch married Lillian (Kuhn) McDougal on April 20, 1985; and

AJR77,1,14 Whereas, he received his first taste as an elected official with a stint on the Bovina town board as board supervisor from 1951 to 1952, and as board chairman from 1953 to 1967 and 1979 to 1990, and he served on the Outagamie County board from 1953 to 1973; and

AJR77,2,2 Whereas, during his tenure as Bovina town board chairman, Butch also served as president of the Wisconsin Towns Association for several years; and

AJR77,2,5 Whereas, Butch was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1964, served continuously from the 1965 to 1981 sessions, and was appointed to numerous committees including the excise and fees committee and the highway committee; and

AJR77,2,8 Whereas, during his tenure in the assembly, Mr. Conradt's concern was to provide the best service to his constituents including his support of any bill that was beneficial to his district; and

AJR77,2,12 Whereas, after his tenure in the assembly, Butch was appointed to the serve on the state special highway project commission in 1987 by Governor Tommy G. Thompson, and then appointed by Governor Thompson to serve as state highway commissioner for 4 years; and

AJR77,2,14 Whereas, after his service as state highway commissioner, Butch was elected the mayor of Seymour from 1994 to 1996; now, therefore, be it

AJR77,2,18 Resolved by the assembly assembly senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Ervin "Butch" Contradt contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

AJR77,2,22 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Mr. Conradt's wife, Lillian; his sons, Dennis (Peggy) Conradt, Shioton, and Richard (Joan) Conradt, Pulaski; and his daughter, Constance Conradt, Shreveport, Louisiana.
