2for reaching the status of union cities.
AR53,1,43 Whereas, Madison and Milwaukee have been awarded official "Union City"
4status by the AFL-CIO; and
AR53,1,7 5Whereas, Madison and Milwaukee labor unions have taken grassroots action
6to increase citizen participation in the democratic process by increasing voter
7registration and turnout and community involvement; and
AR53,1,10 8Whereas, labor unions in Madison and Milwaukee have built strong and
9effective union-community alliances with business, faith-based, civil rights, and
10women's organizations; and
AR53,1,13 11Whereas, labor unions in Madison and Milwaukee have been successful in
12raising a public voice for working families so that local communities are economically
13strong and their families have a better standard of living; now, therefore, be it
AR53,2,3 14Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly
15hereby commend and congratulate the cities of Madison and Milwaukee for reaching

1the official status of "Union Cities" and thank the labor unions for their contribution
2to creating a stronger community and better standard of living for the working
3women and men of Wisconsin.
