2001 Assembly RESOLUTION 58

AR58,1,2 Relating to: recognizing the week beginning the first week in April as Public Health Awareness Week.

AR58,1,7 Whereas, the organization of public health is a partnership of public, private, nonprofit, and voluntary sectors focused on the health of the entire community, with its members responsible for providing comprehensive and coordinated public health and educational services to promote and support the health of families and individuals; and

AR58,1,11 Whereas, prevention, education, and outreach by public health professionals are the most focused and cost-effective ways of creating and maintaining healthy habits and improved quality of life for families and individuals, including women's health, newborn screening, and health of minorities; and

AR58,2,2 Whereas, all persons are receiving the benefits of public health workers who provide immunization clinics, AIDS/HIV counseling and testing, and a variety of specialty clinics and programs promoting health and wellness of all families and individuals, such as tobacco control, injury prevention, mental health, and work place health and safety; and

AR58,2,6 Whereas, concerned individuals are informed and educated about water and air quality, food protection, animal control, and many other environmental issues, and receive timely help from their environmental health and laboratory service providers; and

AR58,2,8 Whereas, assessment, assurance, and policy development are core public health functions; and

AR58,2,12 Whereas, because of the total number of years of service reflected by public health personnel, all persons can be assured of a high level of expertise by this group of public health professionals in providing dedicated service and leadership within their communities; and

AR58,2,14 Whereas, the first week in April of each year is celebrated as National Public Health Awareness Week; now, therefore, be it

AR58,2,18 Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly proclaim the first week of April, 2002, as "Public Health Awareness Week" and urge all citizens to join in recognizing the valuable contribution that public health personnel, volunteers, and agencies make to our communities.
