AR58,1,2 1Relating to: recognizing the week beginning the first week in April as Public Health
2Awareness Week.
AR58,1,73 Whereas, the organization of public health is a partnership of public, private,
4nonprofit, and voluntary sectors focused on the health of the entire community, with
5its members responsible for providing comprehensive and coordinated public health
6and educational services to promote and support the health of families and
7individuals; and
AR58,1,118 Whereas, prevention, education, and outreach by public health professionals
9are the most focused and cost-effective ways of creating and maintaining healthy
10habits and improved quality of life for families and individuals, including women's
11health, newborn screening, and health of minorities; and
AR58,2,212 Whereas, all persons are receiving the benefits of public health workers who
13provide immunization clinics, AIDS/HIV counseling and testing, and a variety of
14specialty clinics and programs promoting health and wellness of all families and

1individuals, such as tobacco control, injury prevention, mental health, and work
2place health and safety; and
AR58,2,63 Whereas, concerned individuals are informed and educated about water and air
4quality, food protection, animal control, and many other environmental issues, and
5receive timely help from their environmental health and laboratory service
6providers; and
AR58,2,87 Whereas, assessment, assurance, and policy development are core public
8health functions; and
AR58,2,129 Whereas, because of the total number of years of service reflected by public
10health personnel, all persons can be assured of a high level of expertise by this group
11of public health professionals in providing dedicated service and leadership within
12their communities; and
AR58,2,1413 Whereas, the first week in April of each year is celebrated as National Public
14Health Awareness Week; now, therefore, be it
AR58,2,18 15Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly
16proclaim the first week of April, 2002, as "Public Health Awareness Week" and urge
17all citizens to join in recognizing the valuable contribution that public health
18personnel, volunteers, and agencies make to our communities.
