Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a hound dog training license authorizes the holder of the
license to release into the wild and hunt, for the purpose of teaching a hound dog to
track, live captive raccoons, live captive rabbits, and live captive black bears. This
bill adds live captive foxes, live captive bobcats, and live captive coyotes to the
animals that may be used to teach a hound dog to track.
Current law authorizes the holder of a hound dog trial license to release into
the wild and hunt, live captive raccoons, live captive rabbits, and live captive black
bears for any organized competitive field event that involves sporting dog breeds and
that is sanctioned, licensed, or recognized by a local, state, regional, or national dog
organization. This bill adds live captive foxes, live captive bobcats, and live captive
coyotes to the animals that may be used in these organized competitive field events.
