AJR36,1,42 Whereas, Major Mathew E. Schram was born in Brookfield, Wisconsin, 36 years
3ago, and died on Memorial Day, 2003, while bravely serving his country as an officer
4in the United States Army's 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment; and
AJR36,1,65 Whereas, Major Schram was industrious and principled and held the highest
6expectations for himself; and
AJR36,1,87 Whereas, Major Schram graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
8School in West Allis in 1981; and
AJR36,1,10 9Whereas, Major Schram graduated from Brookfield Central High School in
101985, where he played football and tennis; and
AJR36,1,13 11Whereas, Major Schram graduated cum laude from the University of
12Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1990 with a degree in political science, and where he was
13also a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps; and
AJR36,1,1514 Whereas, Major Schram received his master's degree in organizational
15management in 2002 while stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and

1Whereas, Major Schram joined the United States Army in 1989, where he
2quickly rose through the ranks; and
AJR36,2,3 3Whereas, Major Schram served in Kuwait during the Gulf War of 1991; and
AJR36,2,44 Whereas, Major Schram served 2 tours in Croatia, in 1996 and 1999; and
AJR36,2,55 Whereas, Major Schram served in Somalia in the late 1990s; and
AJR36,2,76 Whereas, Major Schram served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, helping
7liberate the people of Iraq from an oppressive dictator; and
AJR36,2,98 Whereas, Major Schram was a dedicated soldier who was proud to serve his
9country; now, therefore, be it
AJR36,2,14 10Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
11Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted service that Major Mathew E. Schram
12contributed to his country, his state, and his community; express their sorrow at his
13death; and extend their condolences to his friends and family, including his 8 nieces
14and nephews who held a tender place in his heart; and, be it further
AJR36,2,18 15Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
16resolution to Major Schram's father, Earl, and stepmother Audrey, of Sister Bay; his
17brothers, David of Hales Corners, Phil of Hartland, and Bob of Milwaukee; and his
18sisters Carol Barr of Pewaukee and Sue Kuske of Brookfield.
