AR22,1,2 1Relating to: urging all state legislative houses to call upon the U.S. Congress to
2investigate the attack on the U.S.S. Liberty.
AR22,1,53 Whereas, on June 8, 1967, the U.S.S. Liberty, while operating in international
4waters in the eastern Mediterranean, was the target of an attack by Israel's war
5planes and torpedo boats; and
AR22,1,86 Whereas, this attack killed 34 members of the U.S.S. Liberty's crew and
7wounded 171 other United States personnel on board, in addition to causing
8extensive damage to the ship; and
AR22,1,119 Whereas, there continues to be controversy surrounding the attack with sailors
10who believe the attack was deliberate and by others who believe the attack was a
11mistake by the Israeli military; and
AR22,1,1412 Whereas, aircraft dispatched from aircraft carriers to aid the U.S.S. Liberty
13were recalled, in violation of U.S. military law, resulting in 25 of the 34 deaths of
14American servicemen; and

1Whereas, the sailors and their families should have closure of this tragic attack
2and its aftermath; and
AR22,2,43 Whereas, the U.S.S. Liberty's disaster is the only naval disaster that has never
4been fully investigated by Congress; now, therefore, be it
AR22,2,8 5Resolved by the assembly, That the Wisconsin assembly urges all state
6legislative houses to call upon Congress to immediately investigate the attack on the
7U.S.S. Liberty that was perpetrated by the armed forces of the state of Israel on June
88, 1967, in order to determine the truth behind the attack; and, be it further
AR22,2,11 9Resolved, That the Wisconsin assembly urges all state legislative houses to
10urge Congress to determine why aircraft dispatched to aid the U.S.S. Liberty were
11recalled in direct violation of U.S. military law and custom; and, be it further
AR22,2,13 12Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution
13to the presiding officer of each of the state legislative houses.
