AB318,1,3 1An Act to create 36.27 (3o) and 38.24 (8) of the statutes; relating to: exempting
2certain veterans from tuition and fees at the University of Wisconsin System
3and at technical colleges.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires the University of Wisconsin (UW) System and each technical
college district board to grant to any veteran who is a resident of this state a
remission equal to 50 percent of the cost of tuition and fees at any UW institution or
technical college for 128 credits or eight semesters, whichever is longer.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB318, s. 1 4Section 1. 36.27 (3o) of the statutes is created to read:
AB318,1,65 36.27 (3o) Fee remission for veterans. (a) In this subsection, "veteran" has
6the meaning given in s. 45.001 (4).

1(b) The board shall grant a remission equal to 50 percent of the academic fees
2and segregated fees charged for 128 credits or 8 semesters, whichever is longer, to
3any resident student who is a veteran.
AB318, s. 2 4Section 2. 38.24 (8) of the statutes is created to read:
AB318,2,65 38.24 (8) Fee remission for veterans. (a) In this subsection, "veteran" has the
6meaning given in s. 45.001 (4).
AB318,2,97 (b) The district board shall grant remission equal to 50 percent of the fees
8charged under sub. (1m) (a) to (c) for 128 credits or 8 semesters, whichever is longer,
9to any resident student who is a veteran.
AB318, s. 3 10Section 3. Initial applicability.
AB318,2,1211 (1) This act first applies to students who enroll for classes in the academic year
12that commences after the effective date of this subsection.
