AB721,1,2 1An Act to create 118.07 (3) of the statutes; relating to: the purchase, storage,
2or use of mercury by schools.

Beginning January 1, 2009, this bill prohibits a public, private, or charter
school from purchasing, storing, or using free flowing elemental mercury for any
purpose, or from purchasing, storing, or using an instrument containing mercury
unless no reasonably acceptable, mercury-free alternative exists. In the latter case,
only an instrument that contains the lowest mercury content available may be used.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB721, s. 1 3Section 1. 118.07 (3) of the statutes is created to read:
AB721,1,54 118.07 (3) Beginning January 1, 2009, no school board, private school, or
5charter school may do any of the following:
AB721,1,66 (a) Purchase, store, or use free flowing elemental mercury for any purpose.

1(b) Purchase, store, or use an instrument that contains mercury unless no
2reasonably acceptable, mercury-free alternative exists, in which case the school
3board, private school, or charter school shall use an instrument containing the lowest
4mercury content available.
