AB811,1,2 1An Act to amend 153.07 (4) (b); and to create 153.23 of the statutes; relating
2to:
report on infections acquired at hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Health and Family Services contracts
with the Wisconsin Hospital Association to collect and disseminate data concerning
hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This bill requires the Wisconsin Hospital
Association to collect and publish information about the number of patients at each
hospital and ambulatory surgery center who acquire certain types of infections while
receiving care at the hospital or ambulatory surgery center, as well as the rates of
those infections for each hospital and ambulatory surgery center.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB811, s. 1 3Section 1. 153.07 (4) (b) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB811,1,54 153.07 (4) (b) Provide oversight on the standard reports under this chapter,
5including the reports under ss. 153.20 and, 153.21, and 153.23.
AB811, s. 2 6Section 2. 153.23 of the statutes is created to read:

1153.23 Infection rate report. (1) By January 1, 2008, and annually
2thereafter, the entity under contract under s. 153.05 (2m) (a) shall publish a report
3on the number of patients at each hospital or ambulatory surgery center who acquire
4any of the following types of infections while receiving care at the hospital or
5ambulatory surgery center and the rate of the infections for each hospital and
6ambulatory surgery center:
AB811,2,77 (a) Surgical site infections.
AB811,2,88 (b) Pneumonia associated with use of a ventilator.
AB811,2,99 (c) Bloodstream infections associated with use of a central venous catheter.
AB811,2,1010 (d) Urinary tract infections.
AB811,2,1211 (e) Any other type of infection for which the department, upon approval of the
12board, requires collection of data.
AB811,2,15 13(2) Every hospital and ambulatory surgery center shall provide to the entity
14under contract under s. 153.05 (2m) (a) the information required by the entity to
15prepare the report required under sub. (1).
