AB918,1,2 1An Act to amend 341.25 (1) (a) and 341.25 (1) (a) of the statutes; relating to:
2registration fees for certain automobiles.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Transportation (DOT) charges a
registration fee of $55 for each automobile that is registered within the state. Under
this bill, DOT may not charge a registration fee for any automobile that that has a
fuel economy rating of 35 miles per gallon or more or that is an electric automobile
or a hybrid electric automobile. The provision regarding the registration fee for these
automobiles is sunset on December 31, 2009.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB918, s. 1 3Section 1. 341.25 (1) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:

5registered in this state prior to September 1, 1947, at a fee of less than $18 shall be
6registered at such lesser fee plus an additional fee of $2, and except that the

1department may not charge a registration fee for an automobile that has a fuel
2economy rating of 35 miles per gallon or more or that is an electric automobile or a
3hybrid electric automobile

5(this act), is amended to read:
