SJR1,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Hugo H. Henry.
SJR1,1,42 Whereas, Hugo Harrison Henry, husband of Mary Henry, and father of Kevin,
3Duane, Kimberly, Marc, Marcena, Eric, and Tiffany, passed away at the age of 60 on
4Monday, March 17, 2008; and
SJR1,1,75 Whereas, Mr. Henry was a respected and beloved member of the Beloit
6community in his capacities as teacher, city council member, mentor, role model,
7speaker, and singer; and
SJR1,1,108 Whereas, Mr. Henry taught social studies and history for 34 years at Beloit
9Memorial High School and then at McNeel Middle School, and was named Teacher
10of the Year at each school; and
SJR1,1,1411 Whereas, he dedicated all of his life to teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and
12encouraging children to reach their full potential through such avenues as the
13Merrill Community Center, the Black Male Role Model Group, and the Beloit College
14precollegiate programs; and

1Whereas, he served his community as a member and president of the Beloit City
2Council; member and president of the Stateline Golden K Kiwanis Club; and as a
3member of the Welty Environmental Center; the W-2 Steering Committee; the
4Beloit Branch of the NAACP; the Greater Beloit Minority Coalition; the Merrill
5Revitalization Group; and the African American Infant Mortality Coalition; and
SJR1,2,86 Whereas, he served his state as a member of the Department of Public
7Instruction State High School Task Force, the state Affirmative Action Council; and
8the Wisconsin General Education Association of Student Programs; and
SJR1,2,109 Whereas, his rich baritone graced the choir of the Emmanuel Baptist Church
10and many community events; and
SJR1,2,1211 Whereas, he shared his gift of eloquence as announcer at Beloit Memorial High
12School basketball games and at many community forums; and
SJR1,2,1413 Whereas, he held an unwavering commitment to bring people together, to lift
14them up, to encourage them to be their best, and to make life better for everyone; and
SJR1,2,1615 Whereas, Mr. Henry will continue to serve as a role model and source of
16inspiration long after his death; now, therefore, be it
SJR1,2,20 17Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
18Wisconsin legislature commemorate the life and accomplishments of Hugo Henry,
19express their sorrow at his passing, and extend their condolences to his family and
20friends; and, be it further
SJR1,2,22 21Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
22resolution to Mr. Henry's wife, Mary, and to his seven children.
