SJR2,1,1 Relating to: the life of Richard Burke.

SJR2,1,3 Whereas, Richard "Dick" Burke, husband of Camille, and father of Kathleen, Mary, John, Sharon, and Michele, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2008; and

SJR2,1,6 Whereas, Dick was a hard worker and smart businessman, growing his Waterloo, Wisconsin-based Trek Bicycles from its infancy in an old, rented red barn to its current status as the world's premiere bicycle manufacturer; and

SJR2,1,9 Whereas, Dick's more than 30 years of commitment to his successful company have brought great pride and a significant economic boom to Waterloo, to the surrounding area, and to this state; and

SJR2,1,12 Whereas, Dick's dedication was not only to Trek Bicycles, but to his neighbors, giving back whenever possible, to community and charitable organizations throughout the state; and

SJR2,1,14 Whereas, Dick was a constant supporter of education, establishing the Trinity Foundation, to support urban education, youth, and leadership development; and

SJR2,2,2 Whereas, Dick was an advocate and sponsor of Nativity Jesuit Middle School, which seeks to educate Latino boys for lives of Christian leadership and service; and

SJR2,2,5 Whereas, Dick set up several scholarship programs at Marquette University, Mount Mary College, and Alverno College: dedicated to developing future leaders with a commitment to social justice; and

SJR2,2,7 Whereas, with all of his achievements, Dick was most proud of his children; gifted, contributing members of our state, in their own right; and

SJR2,2,9 Whereas, Dick leaves behind this lasting legacy of business savvy, civic-mindedness, and devotion to God and family; now, therefore, be it

SJR2,2,13 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend all that Richard "Dick" Burke contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his passing, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further

SJR2,2,16 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Dick's wife, Camille, and his five children, Kathleen, Mary, John, Sharon, and Michele.
