AB315,1,4 1An Act to amend 66.0628 (title); and to create 20.905 (4) and 66.0628 (3) of the
2statutes; relating to: requiring the state and political subdivisions to accept
3cash as a form of payment at locations where in-person payments of fees,
4charges, or taxes are accepted.

This bill requires that any unit of state government and any political
subdivision that accepts in-person payment of any fee, charge, or tax that is imposed
by the state or political subdivision to accept cash as a form of payment at the location
where in-person payment is accepted. The state or political subdivision is not
required to accept payment in the form of an excessive amount of coins, as
determined by the state or political subdivision.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB315, s. 1 5Section 1. 20.905 (4) of the statutes is created to read:
AB315,2,36 20.905 (4) Acceptable form of payment. If a state agency accepts in-person
7payment for any fee, charge, or tax that is imposed by the state, the state agency shall

1accept cash as a form of payment at the location where the in-person payment may
2be made, although the state agency does not have to accept payment in the form of
3an excessive amount of coins, as determined by the state agency.
AB315, s. 2 4Section 2. 66.0628 (title) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB315,2,6 566.0628 (title) Fees imposed by and payments accepted by a political
6subdivision.
AB315, s. 3 7Section 3. 66.0628 (3) of the statutes is created to read:
AB315,2,128 66.0628 (3) If a political subdivision accepts in-person payment for any fee,
9charge, or tax that is imposed by the political subdivision, the political subdivision
10shall accept cash as a form of payment at the location where the in-person payment
11may be made, although the political subdivision does not have to accept payment in
12the form of an excessive amount of coins, as determined by the political subdivision.
AB315, s. 4 13Section 4. Initial applicability.
AB315,2,1514 (1) This act first applies to a payment that is made on the effective date of this
15subsection.
