AB830,1,2 1An Act to amend 949.03 (1) (c) of the statutes; relating to: crime victim
2compensation awards for bicyclists injured or killed in vehicle accidents.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Justice (DOJ) may pay a crime victim
compensation award to a person who is injured or killed as a result of certain crimes,
or to the person's dependents. Also under current law, it is a crime for a vehicle
operator who is involved in an accident that results in injury or death to flee the
accident scene, to fail to aid an accident victim, or to refuse to provide identification
and vehicle information (crime of failing to fulfill accident duties). DOJ may pay a
crime victim compensation award to a victim of the crime of failing to fulfill accident
duties, if the person is a pedestrian.
This bill provides that DOJ may pay compensation to a bicyclist who is a victim
of the crime of failing to fulfill accident duties.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB830,1,54 949.03 (1) (c) The commission or the attempt to commit the crime specified in
5s. 346.67 (1) if the victim was a pedestrian or was operating a bicycle.

AB830,2,32 (1) This act first applies to an injury or death that occurs one year before the
3effective date of this subsection.
