1An Act to create 100.55 of the statutes;
relating to: requiring textbook
2publishers to provide certain information to instructors at institutions of higher
3education.

This bill requires a publisher of textbooks intended for use by students at higher
education institutions who solicits an instructor to use the publisher's textbook in a
class to provide at the time of the solicitation: 1) the price at which the publisher
would sell the textbook to a vendor who sells textbooks to students; and 2) the history
of revisions to the textbook.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1. 100.55 of the statutes is created to read:

5100.55 Textbook publishers; required information. (1) In this section:

(a) "Higher education institution" includes public and private postsecondary
7education institutions.

1(b) "Textbook" does not include custom publications or special editions.

2(2) A publisher of textbooks intended for use by students at higher education
3institutions who solicits an instructor at a higher education institution to use a
4textbook published by the publisher in a class taught by the instructor shall provide
5to the instructor at the time of the solicitation all of the following:
