2007 Assembly JOINT RESOLUTION 110

AJR110,1,1 Relating to: commending Mayor Jeannette Bell on her career and public service.

AJR110,1,3 Whereas, Mayor Jeannette Bell has served ably as the mayor of West Allis for 12 years, having been elected in 1996; and

AJR110,1,5 Whereas, Mayor Bell previously and capably served the city of West Allis as a representative to the state assembly for 14, years from 1983 to 1997; and

AJR110,1,11 Whereas, while serving in the state assembly, Jeannette Bell spent 14 years working on numerous issues, including tax policy, recycling, limiting acid rain, lake water diversion, and crafting custody arrangements that were in the best interests of children. She also successfully authored the creation of the Children's Trust Fund, a program utilizing prevention programs to reduce child abuse, and the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board; and

AJR110,2,2 Whereas, in 1987 Jeannette Bell became a founding member of Wisconsin Women in Government, an avenue to celebrate and support the talented women who choose a career in government service. Each year, Wisconsin Women in Government awards scholarships to women pursuing undergraduate and post-graduate study at any Wisconsin institution of higher education; and

AJR110,2,5 Whereas, Mayor Bell leaves behind a legacy that has been built on rejuvenating the city of West Allis and transforming the city from a manufacturing base to a vibrant and growing residential, retail, and office community; and

AJR110,2,9 Whereas, Mayor Bell's commitment to the redevelopment of West Allis has led to the city bringing in more than $200 million in new construction, including the remodeling of the Allis-Chalmers complex and the Six Points/Farmers Market project; and

AJR110,2,13 Whereas, Mayor Bell has been a community leader for 25 years, serving West Allis and Milwaukee County in her elected positions, on various boards, and for civic organizations, including the Milwaukee Area Technical College and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, and as a respected pillar of the community; and

AJR110,2,16 Whereas, Mayor Bell has spent a career working on the issues that matter to the citizens of southeastern Wisconsin, and will be retiring at the end of her term; now, therefore, be it

AJR110,2,19 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend Mayor Jeannette Bell on her career, dedication, accomplishments, and service to the citizens of Wisconsin; and, be it further

AJR110,2,21 Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mayor Jeannette Bell.
