AJR110,1,1 1Relating to: commending Mayor Jeannette Bell on her career and public service.
AJR110,1,32 Whereas, Mayor Jeannette Bell has served ably as the mayor of West Allis for
312 years, having been elected in 1996; and
AJR110,1,54 Whereas, Mayor Bell previously and capably served the city of West Allis as a
5representative to the state assembly for 14, years from 1983 to 1997; and
AJR110,1,116 Whereas, while serving in the state assembly, Jeannette Bell spent 14 years
7working on numerous issues, including tax policy, recycling, limiting acid rain, lake
8water diversion, and crafting custody arrangements that were in the best interests
9of children. She also successfully authored the creation of the Children's Trust Fund,
10a program utilizing prevention programs to reduce child abuse, and the Child Abuse
11and Neglect Prevention Board; and
AJR110,2,212 Whereas, in 1987 Jeannette Bell became a founding member of Wisconsin
13Women in Government, an avenue to celebrate and support the talented women who
14choose a career in government service. Each year, Wisconsin Women in Government

1awards scholarships to women pursuing undergraduate and post-graduate study at
2any Wisconsin institution of higher education; and
AJR110,2,53 Whereas, Mayor Bell leaves behind a legacy that has been built on rejuvenating
4the city of West Allis and transforming the city from a manufacturing base to a
5vibrant and growing residential, retail, and office community; and
AJR110,2,96 Whereas, Mayor Bell's commitment to the redevelopment of West Allis has led
7to the city bringing in more than $200 million in new construction, including the
8remodeling of the Allis-Chalmers complex and the Six Points/Farmers Market
9project; and
AJR110,2,1310 Whereas, Mayor Bell has been a community leader for 25 years, serving West
11Allis and Milwaukee County in her elected positions, on various boards, and for civic
12organizations, including the Milwaukee Area Technical College and the Milwaukee
13Metropolitan Sewerage District, and as a respected pillar of the community; and
AJR110,2,1614 Whereas, Mayor Bell has spent a career working on the issues that matter to
15the citizens of southeastern Wisconsin, and will be retiring at the end of her term;
16now, therefore, be it
AJR110,2,19 17Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
18Wisconsin legislature commend Mayor Jeannette Bell on her career, dedication,
19accomplishments, and service to the citizens of Wisconsin; and, be it further
AJR110,2,21 20Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
21resolution to Mayor Jeannette Bell.
