AJR76,1,32 Whereas, Jim Ryan served as the Hales Corners Village President from 1988
3to 2007; and
AJR76,1,64 Whereas, in addition to serving as village president, Jim served the community
5on the Milwaukee County Board from 1980 to 1983 and as a Hales Corners village
6trustee from 1976 to 1980; and
AJR76,1,107 Whereas, Jim graduated from Marquette University in 1965 with a degree in
8philosophy and sociology, received a master's degree from Loyola University in social
9work in 1967, and received a certificate from the Government Executive Program at
10the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; and
AJR76,1,1311 Whereas, Jim was active in the Hales Corners community in many other
12capacities, including service with the American Red Cross, the Whitnall Park Rotary,
13and the Boerner Botanical Gardens Board of Directors; and
AJR76,2,214 Whereas, Jim's work extended beyond the bounds of his hometown through his
15involvement in the Birth to 3 Program, his help founding the Wisconsin Alliance for

1Infant Mental Health, and his help creating the School Readiness Philanthropy
2Group; and
AJR76,2,43 Whereas, Jim served as president and CEO of both the Penfield Children's
4Center and the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, Inc.; and
AJR76,2,55 Whereas, Jim was honored and admired by those with whom he worked; and
AJR76,2,76 Whereas, Jim's greatest contribution was as a devoted and loving husband and
7father; and
AJR76,2,108 Whereas, Jim's accomplishments will be recognized by future generations, as
9the Village of Hales Corners Hall has been renamed and rededicated the James R.
10Ryan Municipal Building; and
AJR76,2,1211 Whereas, Jim passed away on November 6, 2007, following a fruitful lifetime
12of service to his home and community; now, therefore, be it
AJR76,2,16 13Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
14Wisconsin legislature commend the many accomplishments that Jim Ryan
15contributed to this state and to his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
16extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR76,2,19 17Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
18resolution to Jim's wife, Lisa, and his four children, Jimmy, John, Kristen, and
19Cathryn.
