April 14, 2010 - Introduced by Representatives Danou and Gunderson,
cosponsored by Senators Holperin, Taylor, Grothman and Hansen. Referred
to Committee on State Affairs and Homeland Security.
AB953,1,2 1An Act to create 563.935 (10) of the statutes; relating to: the number of raffles
2permitted in a year.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, a local religious, charitable, service, fraternal, veterans, or
other not-for-profit organization may conduct a raffle if it obtains a raffle license
from the Department of Administration. An organization may not conduct more
than 200 raffles per year.
Under a Class A raffle, tickets may be sold before the day of the drawing. Under
a Class B raffle, tickets may be sold only on the day of the drawing. This bill provides
that a Class B raffle in which the raffle organizer holds separate drawings to award
specified prizes or groups of prizes on the same date and at the same location and in
which the ticket purchaser may select which drawing to enter is one raffle for
purposes of the annual limit on the number of raffles that an organization may
conduct.
