AB97,1,2 1An Act to create 14.16 (16) of the statutes; relating to: the designation of
2Vietnam Veterans Day.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law gives the governor authority to set aside, by proclamation, certain
days of the year to remember or honor specific groups or concerns. For example, the
governor issues a proclamation for Labor Day, Mother's Day, Wonderful Wisconsin
Week, Veteran Recognition Week, POW-MIA Recognition Day, and Purple Heart
Day.
This bill designates March 29 as "Vietnam Veterans Day" to recognize the 1,239
Wisconsin armed forces members who are listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in
Washington, D.C. The bill requires the governor to issue a proclamation for the
observation of that day, asking the public to recall the Vietnam veterans'
accomplishments and to thank those veterans for their service during the Vietnam
War.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB97, s. 1 3Section 1. 14.16 (16) of the statutes is created to read:
AB97,2,54 14.16 (16) Vietnam Veterans Day. To recognize the 1,239 Wisconsin armed
5forces members who are listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.,

1and to express pride and gratitude to the veterans of that war, March 29 is designated
2as the "Vietnam Veterans Day." The governor shall issue annually a suitable
3proclamation for the observance of "Vietnam Veterans Day" and request that some
4portion of the day be used to recall the Vietnam veterans' accomplishments and to
5thank those veterans for their service during that war.
