AJR120,1,42 Whereas, Walter J. "Butch" Ireland was born on June 15, 1923, in Kohler,
3Wisconsin to Walter J. Ireland Sr. and Flora Ireland, and died on March 21, 2010, in
4Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and
AJR120,1,65 Whereas, following graduation from Kohler High School, Mr. Ireland furthered
6his education at Marquette University; and
AJR120,1,87 Whereas, Mr. Ireland served honorably in the United States Air Force during
8World War II; and
AJR120,1,119 Whereas, Mr. Ireland was united in marriage to Mable F. Spatzek of Sheboygan
10on December 28, 1946, and the couple was later blessed with the birth of their
11daughter, Sandra; and
AJR120,1,1312 Whereas, Mr. Ireland served in the Wisconsin state assembly from 1958 to
131960; and

1Whereas, during his tenure in the assembly, Mr. Ireland served on the
2Assembly Committee on Labor, and authored bills that related to subjects such as
3motor vehicle instructional permits and insurance premiums; and
AJR120,2,84 Whereas, as a committed public servant throughout his life, Mr. Ireland also
5served on the Sheboygan County Board, Sheboygan County Airport Building
6Committee, Sheboygan County Association of Commerce, Lightfoot School
7Committee, Rocky Knoll Building Addition and Conversion Committee, and the
8Building Committee for Sunny Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center; and
AJR120,2,109 Whereas, Mr. Ireland owned Kullman Insurance Agency and worked as an
10insurance agent until his retirement in 1986; and
AJR120,2,1311 Whereas, Mr. Ireland was passionate about his faith, family, community, and
12politics, and also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and watching the Milwaukee
13Brewers; and
AJR120,2,1614 Whereas, Mr. Ireland also served as secretary of the Kohler Fire Department
15for 45 years, was a member of the Kohler Police Athletic League, and was a life
16member of American Legion Post 83; and
AJR120,2,1817 Whereas, Mr. Ireland served with principle and integrity, and his legacy will
18surely serve as an inspiration for those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
AJR120,2,22 19Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
20Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Walter J. "Butch"
21Ireland contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his
22death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR120,3,2 23Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
24resolution to Mr. Ireland's wife, Mabel Ireland; his daughter, Sandra Sherman; his
25four grandchildren, Heidi Davidson, Kelly Hutson, Jessica Sherman, and Kelly

1Brown; and his three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Ireland Hutson, Christina
2Hutson, and John Hutson.
