AJR27,1,32 Whereas, improperly disposed pharmaceutical drugs pollute lakes and
3streams, and result in harmful effects on surface and ground waters; and
AJR27,1,54 Whereas, these improperly disposed pharmaceutical drugs have the potential
5to be harmful to wildlife and damaging to the public health; and
AJR27,1,76 Whereas, the lack of effective and efficient methods of drug disposal has
7resulted in undesirable social, cultural, ecological, and global effects; and
AJR27,1,108 Whereas, unused and expired pharmaceuticals are readily accessible to
9potential abusers through theft, diversion, or criminal resale and present an
10opportunity for the misuse of drugs; and
AJR27,1,1211 Whereas, in recent years, the misuse and abuse of pharmaceuticals by
12teenagers, adults, and older adults has increased; and
AJR27,1,1413 Whereas, one of the most common sources of illicit pharmaceuticals is the home
14medicine cabinet; and

1Whereas, in addition to posing a threat to the environment and public safety,
2unused and improperly disposed pharmaceuticals also represent wasted health care
3dollars to consumers, healthcare providers, and taxpayers; now, therefore, be it
AJR27,2,7 4Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That in order to
5encourage proper disposal methods of prescription drugs and promote community
6efforts to facilitate the proper disposal of prescription medication, the legislature
7does hereby proclaim June 6, 2009, as "Proper Drug Disposal Day."
