AR11,1,4 1Relating to: recognizing and proclaiming Hispanic Heritage Month, a month-long
2celebration of the culture and traditions of United States residents who trace
3their roots to Spain, Mexico, and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central
4America, South America, and the Caribbean.
AR11,1,85 Whereas, the story of Hispanics is the story of America, in that Hispanics have
6contributed in various fields, from the arts, sciences, sports, culture, to the economy,
7have encompassed the American dream, and brought the energy and drive of recent
8immigrants to this country; and
AR11,1,109 Whereas, Hispanics serve in government at every level, from school boards to
10the state house, from city councils and mayoral offices to Congress; and
AR11,1,1211 Whereas, for the first time in our nation's history, an Hispanic, Sonya
12Sotomayor, is confirmed as a justice of the Supreme Court of the United States; and
AR11,1,1513 Whereas, Hispanics have served with honor and distinction in every conflict
14involving the United States since the Revolutionary War, and have made valuable
15contributions through their service to this country; and

1Whereas, the United States Census Bureau estimates that by July 2008 the
2Hispanic population had surpassed 45 million people, constituting 15 percent of the
3total population of the United States, making Hispanics the largest minority group;
4now, therefore, be it
AR11,2,8 5Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly
6honor the achievements of Hispanics in America and honor the many ways that
7Hispanics continue to enrich our nation and shape our common future; and, be it
8further
AR11,2,10 9Resolved, That following in the footsteps of Congress, September 15 to
10October 15 is proclaimed Hispanic Heritage Month in Wisconsin.
