Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under administrative rules promulgated by the Department of Natural
Resources (DNR), most fishing seasons open on the first Saturday of May. This bill
requires DNR to establish a catch-and-release only season for bass fishing in the
areas of the state where there is not a continuous open season for bass fishing. The
bill requires the catch-and-release only season to begin on the first Saturday in
March and to end on the Sunday preceding the first Saturday in May.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB325, s. 1 3Section 1. 29.053 (2m) of the statutes is created to read:
AB325,2,24 29.053 (2m) The department shall establish a catch-and-release only season
5for bass fishing for the areas of the state where there is not a continuous open season

1for bass fishing. The season shall begin on the first Saturday in March and end on
2the Sunday preceding the first Saturday in May.
