AB423,1,2 1An Act to amend 948.03 (2) (b) of the statutes; relating to: intentionally
2causing bodily harm to a child and providing a penalty.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the penalty for physical abuse of a child differs based on the
extent of harm caused and the intent of the actor. Intentionally causing great bodily
harm to a child is a Class C felony, intentionally causing bodily harm to a child is a
Class H felony, recklessly causing great bodily harm to a child is a Class E felony, and
recklessly causing bodily harm to a child is a Class I felony. This bill makes
intentionally causing bodily harm to a child a Class G felony. The maximum

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1Section 1. 948.03 (2) (b) of the statutes is amended to read:
