AJR39,1,52 Whereas, Howard Brown's diligent work as the Kenosha News president and
3publisher for 40 years led him to earn industry accolades: the Ralph D. Casey Award
4and the Silver Shovel Award, as well as induction into the Wisconsin Newspaper Hall
5of Fame; and
AJR39,1,76 Whereas, Howard Brown's devotion and love for his community led him to be
7known as "Uncle Howard"; and
AJR39,1,108 Whereas, Howard Brown's bravery and pride for his country allowed him to
9fight courageously for the United States Military's 44th Infantry Division in World
10War II; and
AJR39,1,1411 Whereas, Howard Brown's benevolence and generosity lent a helping hand to
12his community through many nonprofit organizations, especially his creation and
13development of the Goodfellows charity that brightened hundreds of families'
14holiday celebrations; and

1Whereas, Howard Brown played a leading role in advancing many policies to
2strengthen the Greater Kenosha area, including the passage of the Utility
3Diversification Bill which led to creation of the Lakeview Corporate Park that now
4has dozens of companies that employ thousands of Kenosha citizens; and
AJR39,2,75 Whereas, Howard Brown's strong commitment to education assisted in
6establishing UW-Parkside and earned him a leading role for Carthage College on
7the Board of Trustees; and
AJR39,2,108 Whereas, Howard Brown's compassion, humor, and charm inspired
9generations of citizens from Kenosha County and everyone he met to become better
10people and lead richer lives; now, therefore, be it
AJR39,2,14 11Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature
12commemorates the life of Howard J. Brown, his dedication to his community, his
13conscientious work for the Kenosha News, and for his service as a beloved icon for
14the residents of Kenosha County.
