AJR39,1,1 Relating to: the life and public service of Howard Brown.

AJR39,1,5 Whereas, Howard Brown's diligent work as the Kenosha News president and publisher for 40 years led him to earn industry accolades: the Ralph D. Casey Award and the Silver Shovel Award, as well as induction into the Wisconsin Newspaper Hall of Fame; and

AJR39,1,7 Whereas, Howard Brown's devotion and love for his community led him to be known as "Uncle Howard"; and

AJR39,1,10 Whereas, Howard Brown's bravery and pride for his country allowed him to fight courageously for the United States Military's 44th Infantry Division in World War II; and

AJR39,1,14 Whereas, Howard Brown's benevolence and generosity lent a helping hand to his community through many nonprofit organizations, especially his creation and development of the Goodfellows charity that brightened hundreds of families' holiday celebrations; and

AJR39,2,4 Whereas, Howard Brown played a leading role in advancing many policies to strengthen the Greater Kenosha area, including the passage of the Utility Diversification Bill which led to creation of the Lakeview Corporate Park that now has dozens of companies that employ thousands of Kenosha citizens; and

AJR39,2,7 Whereas, Howard Brown's strong commitment to education assisted in establishing UW-Parkside and earned him a leading role for Carthage College on the Board of Trustees; and

AJR39,2,10 Whereas, Howard Brown's compassion, humor, and charm inspired generations of citizens from Kenosha County and everyone he met to become better people and lead richer lives; now, therefore, be it

AJR39,2,14 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature commemorates the life of Howard J. Brown, his dedication to his community, his conscientious work for the Kenosha News, and for his service as a beloved icon for the residents of Kenosha County.
