AJR6,1,32 Whereas, Vang Pao was born on December 8, 1929, and died on January 6, 2011;

AJR6,1,54 Whereas, Vang Pao participated in the resistance efforts after the Japanese
5invaded and occupied French Indochina in World War II; and
AJR6,1,76 Whereas, after World War II, Vang Pao was recruited by the French to combat
7the Viet Minh; and
AJR6,1,98 Whereas, Vang Pao was the only ethnic Hmong to attain the rank of general in
9the Royal Lao Army; and
AJR6,1,1110 Whereas, Vang Pao commanded the Secret Army during the 1960's and 1970's
11with support and training from the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency; and
AJR6,1,1312 Whereas, Vang Pao immigrated to the United States after the communist group
13Pathet Lao seized control of Laos in 1975; and

1Whereas, thousands of Hmong refugees followed in Vang Pao's footsteps and
2bravely escaped persecution and repression in Laos and resettled in the United
3States; and
AJR6,2,54 Whereas, Vang Pao is revered by many in the Hmong community for his
5leadership and many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
AJR6,2,8 6Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
7legislature commemorates the life and service of General Vang Pao, and mourns his
8passing.
