AB571,1,2 An Act relating to: providing a grant to the city of Milwaukee and making an appropriation.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Under current law, the Department of Justice (DOJ) provides grants to cities to fund programs aimed at crime reduction in neighborhoods that are affected by high levels of crime. The bill increases, for fiscal year 2013-14, the appropriation for those grants by $250,000 and directs DOJ to provide a one-time grant in fiscal year 2013-14 of $250,000 to the city of Milwaukee to be used by the city in its firearms buy-back program.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB571,1 Section 1 . Nonstatutory provisions; Justice.

AB571,2,2 (1) Weapons buy-back program grant. Notwithstanding the purpose for which the appropriation under section 20.455 (2) (dg) of the statutes is made, in fiscal year 2013-14, the department of justice shall award to the city of Milwaukee from the appropriation under section 20.455 (2) (dg) of the statutes a grant of $250,000, to fund the city's firearms buy-back program.

AB571,2 Section 2. Fiscal changes; Justice.

AB571,2,8 (1) Weapons buy-back program grant; general purpose revenue. In the schedule under section 20.005 (3) of the statutes for the appropriation to the department of justice under section 20.455 (2) (dg) of the statutes, as affected by the acts of 2013, the dollar amount is increased by $250,000 in fiscal year 2013-14 to fund the grant under Section 1 (1) of this act.
