AJR101,1,32 Whereas, Scouting is the largest voluntary youth movement in the world, with
3a membership totaling more than 25 million; and
AJR101,1,84 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America is an organization that was incorporated
5on February 8, 1910, and recognized by federal charter on June 15, 1916, to provide
6an educational program for boys and young men to build strong moral character,
7train in the responsibilities of participatory citizenship, and develop personal
8fitness; and
AJR101,1,129 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America teaches the core values of duty to God and
10country, personal honor, respect for the beliefs of others, volunteerism, and
11interdependence with the environment, principles which are conducive to good
12character, citizenship, and health; and
AJR101,1,1413 Whereas, since 1910, more than 111 million people have been members of the
14Boy Scouts of America; and

1Whereas, the Supreme Court has ruled that the Boy Scouts of America, as a
2private, voluntary, non-business organization, has the right to set its own standards
3for membership and leadership; and
AJR101,2,64 Whereas, each local Boy Scout Council commits each Boy Scout to perform
5twelve hours of community service yearly, for a total of 30 million community service
6hours each year; and
AJR101,2,97 Whereas, more than one million adult volunteer leaders selflessly serve young
8people in their communities through organizations chartered by the Boy Scouts of
9America; and
AJR101,2,1110 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America has always affirmed faith in God as
11foundational and essential to its purpose and mission; and
AJR101,2,1412 Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America enjoys a sustained record of proven success
13in producing leaders for our nation who are trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly,
14courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent; and
AJR101,2,1815 Whereas, there are 74,913 youth in Scouting in Wisconsin and 20,140 adult
16volunteer leaders who have done 208,000 hours of service to their communities,
17valued at more than $4.5 million. They collected more than one million pounds of food
18for local food pantries through the Scouting for Food program; and
AJR101,2,2019 Whereas, 843 Wisconsin youth earned their Eagle Scout badge in 2013; now,
20therefore, be it
AJR101,2,23 21Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
22Wisconsin legislature express support for the Boy Scouts of America and the values
23instilled through the Scout Oath and Law; and, be it further
AJR101,3,2 24Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature encourage all
25citizens and organizations in the state to recognize the importance of the Boy Scouts

1of America, and to support the cherished tradition of the Boy Scouts of America; and,
2be it further
AJR101,3,4 3Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
4resolution to the Boy Scouts of America in the great state of Wisconsin.
