AJR53,1,2 Relating to: commending WFAW-AM/WSJY-FM radio for 50 years of quality community broadcasting.

AJR53,1,7 Whereas, WFAW-AM/WSJY-FM first went live "on the air" on September 4, 1959, touting itself as "the ultimate cow pasture radio," and, in the 50 years since its continuous broadcast began in 1963, has become far more than that, providing news, talk, and entertainment for tens of thousands of people in Jefferson, Dane, Rock, and Walworth Counties; and

AJR53,1,10 Whereas, the station has grown from eight employees using the most basic broadcasting tools out of a trailer in a farm field, to 16 employees operating out of its modern facility with state-of-the-art equipment; and

AJR53,2,3 Whereas, WFAW-AM/WSJY-FM's success can be attributed both to the leadership of its owners, Robert K. Brown, Merlin Meythaler, Nathan Goetz, Robert Goetz, Marathon Media, and NRG License Sub LLC, and to the outstanding work of its employees, including general managers Tom Lawhead, LaVerne Falk, Scott Trentadue, Gary Moen, Ben Rosenthal, and Jim Vriezen, and popular broadcasters Shane Sparks, Tom Pattison, Rocky Ruckdaschel, Lew Wendlandt, Jim Klug, Carole Caine, Andy "Arbuckle" Jorgensen, Gary Douglas, Michael Clish, and Eric Stone; and

AJR53,2,8 Whereas, the technology, people, and times have changed, but the station's focus and commitment to informing and supporting the communities it serves has remained steadfast through the years, evidenced by its daily broadcast of news both global and local and by its heavy involvement in many charitable organizations; now, therefore, be it

AJR53,2,12 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend WFAW-AM/WSJY-FM and its owners, management team, on-air personalities, and support staff on the station's 50th anniversary, and wish them great success in all future endeavors.
