AJR53,1,73 Whereas, WFAW-AM/WSJY-FM first went live "on the air" on September 4,
41959, touting itself as "the ultimate cow pasture radio," and, in the 50 years since its
5continuous broadcast began in 1963, has become far more than that, providing news,
6talk, and entertainment for tens of thousands of people in Jefferson, Dane, Rock, and
7Walworth Counties; and
AJR53,1,108 Whereas, the station has grown from eight employees using the most basic
9broadcasting tools out of a trailer in a farm field, to 16 employees operating out of its
10modern facility with state-of-the-art equipment; and
AJR53,2,311 Whereas, WFAW-AM/WSJY-FM's success can be attributed both to the
12leadership of its owners, Robert K. Brown, Merlin Meythaler, Nathan Goetz, Robert
13Goetz, Marathon Media, and NRG License Sub LLC, and to the outstanding work of
14its employees, including general managers Tom Lawhead, LaVerne Falk, Scott
15Trentadue, Gary Moen, Ben Rosenthal, and Jim Vriezen, and popular broadcasters

5focus and commitment to informing and supporting the communities it serves has
6remained steadfast through the years, evidenced by its daily broadcast of news both
7global and local and by its heavy involvement in many charitable organizations; now,
8therefore, be it
AJR53,2,12 9Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
10Wisconsin legislature commend WFAW-AM/WSJY-FM and its owners,
11management team, on-air personalities, and support staff on the station's 50th
12anniversary, and wish them great success in all future endeavors.
